Workflow Automation Engineer
Turn messy, manual processes into structured, observable, production-grade automation systems. At Draft & Goal, workflows are the product.
About the role
We’re hiring a Workflow Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain reliable, production-grade workflows that power Draft & Goal’s operations and client delivery. This role sits at the intersection of business operations, data systems, integrations, and AI workflows. You will turn messy, manual processes into structured, scalable automation systems that are observable, maintainable, and high-performing. Your work will directly impact how we deliver value to clients, replacing operational complexity with robust, measurable execution.
What you’ll do
Design and build automation systems
- Design and implement end-to-end workflows within Draft & Goal’s orchestration platform
- Translate business requirements into structured logic (triggers, dependencies, decision trees, error handling)
- Build workflows connecting APIs, databases, third-party tools, and AI components
- Ensure systems are modular, scalable, and maintainable
Turn operations into systems
- Analyze internal and client processes to identify inefficiencies and automation opportunities
- Break down complex workflows into clear, executable specifications
- Prioritize automation based on impact and feasibility
- Challenge ambiguous requirements and turn them into structured solutions
Own production reliability
- Monitor workflow performance, logs, data consistency, and failure points
- Investigate issues and resolve root causes quickly
- Improve resilience through retries, validation, fallbacks, and observability
- Ensure workflows run reliably at scale
Integrations and technical execution
- Work with APIs, webhooks, and structured data flows across systems
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and AI teams on advanced integrations
- Build reusable workflow components and integration patterns
Documentation and scaling
- Document workflows, inputs and outputs, dependencies, and edge cases
- Contribute to best practices for QA, deployment, naming, and monitoring
- Create reusable templates to scale workflows across clients and use cases
What success looks like
- High workflow reliability and low error rates
- Fast deployment from idea to production
- Significant reduction in manual operations
- Reusable workflow components adopted across use cases
- Strong internal and client satisfaction with delivery quality
Who you are
You think in systems, not tasks. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and turning it into structured, production-ready solutions. You’re not just a no-code operator; you’re closer to an automation engineer or data systems builder.
Requirements
- Experience designing and managing complex workflows or automation systems
- Strong understanding of APIs, webhooks, JSON, authentication, and error handling
- Experience with data flows, transformations, and system integrations
- Ability to translate messy business needs into structured automation logic
- Strong attention to detail and documentation
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment
Must have
- Experience with tools like n8n, Make, Zapier, Airflow, Retool, or similar
- Basic knowledge of SQL
- Familiarity with Python or JavaScript for debugging or data handling
- Experience with AI / LLM-powered workflows
- Exposure to CRM, CMS, analytics, or enrichment tools
- Experience with monitoring, observability, or production incident handling
Example projects
- Build AI-powered SEO content workflows with enrichment and validation layers
- Design lead processing and enrichment pipelines across multiple systems
- Create internal automation systems for routing and execution of client operations
- Improve reliability and observability of production workflows
- Develop reusable workflow templates used across multiple clients
Why this role matters
